To increase understanding to the existing consumer groups in Yogyakarta region concerning with organic food products, Yogyakarta Consumer Institute invited 30 members of consumer groups from two sub-district in Yogyakarta city to visit the center of organic local food production in Gunung Kidul-Yogyakarta Province on October 6, 2015. Organic local food production center, called “Sri Langgeng”, located in Kemejing village, district Semin, Gunung Kidul Regency, approximately 40km from the city of Yogyakarta. The purpose of the visit is to transfer of knowledge in which consumer groups can understand how cultivation of organic local plants is done and how to run business on processing organic food products. By having comprehensive understanding on it, participants were encouraged to be more active to running cultivation of organic crops in urban areas and to seek alternative food processing. Resource persons from a group of farmers told about how to start a business, in the midst of the difficulties and limitations. After a session in the room, it was continued by visiting organic farms to see what the plants in the field and how farming is done by the group of farmers. This visit inspired the participants to plant various vegetables and other organic crops in urban areas. Hopefully this small step of LKY (as a part of Green Action Week 2015 program supported by Consumers International and SSNC) can give huge impact in our society.
