The theme for World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) 2012 will be Action on Money Transfers: Campaigning to cut the cost of sending money abroad. Over USD400 billion is sent home by migrant workers around the world every year. But due to the lack of effective competition in the international money transfer market and opaque pricing, consumers are often forced to pay high charges. It is high time for action to be taken to ensure that consumers receive fair treatment. As part of CI’s ongoing campaign for fair financial services, we will be working with our members to bring attention to this issue that affects consumers around the world.
